My lib mom sent me that NYT end-of-year quiz where you have to identify figures in the news by typing in their name given just a photo and I was shocked that Nikki Haley was recognized by 92% of readers, beating DeSantis by 5 percentage points.

There is a significant confounding factor they really should have eliminated: her photo shows her on the debate stage, so even if you don't recognize her it's pretty obvious she must be the only woman in the race, whereas DeSantis could theoretically be one of the other white guys if you ignore the hint.

Also lmao at 1/3 of NYT readers being unable to name Xi. You'd think it'd have sunk in by now after reading so many articles and op eds about the spooky seeseepee. It's literally two fucking letters to get credit, you don't even need his given name!

They put this guy's mug on literally every article about China. How tf could they not know who that is unless they literally cannot identify any Chinese people?
