It feels kind of bookkeeping heavy and I’m not actually a fan much of the gameplay.

If you want to get into a lite gaming experience I’d recommend one of the games from OnePageRules. Grimdark Future is their alternative to 40k, and Grimdark Firefight is their alternative to Kill Team.

If you want some with fewer minis but more detailed abilities, Marvel Crisis Protocol is good to start into. I have seen the Star Wars Shatterpoint game and it looks heavily influenced by Marvel Crisis Protocol if you want to keep the Star Wars theme.

Star Wars Legion kind of sits in the middle as a bookkeeping heavy, herohammer kind of game. A lot of people clearly like it, so don't take my review as gospel, I just happen to like the models more than the game.

Ah interesting, thanks for the links!
One page wargaming sounds super cool to get in quickly with some friends, so I'll 100% check these out :)
