Apparently one of the writers/producers on that episode had a father that transitioned, which makes it extra strange/sad.

Anyway, I think there's a later episode which isn't as bad (low bar), which is what the dad in this scenario could be talking about. I don't remember it that well, but at the time I remember sighing at the start of the episode and then by the end perhaps being a little charitable in interpreting the moral of the episode as 'gender dysphoria is serious and a good solution is supportive transition.'

EDIT: haven't seen the episode in a long long time so who knows
