It's a New Year's tree. Orthodox Christmas is later in the year but Slavs celebrate New Year's with similar traditions to US Christmas.
It's Russian Christmas, which is later in the year. Most Orthodox Christian countries, including Ukraine, celebrate it earlier, on the same day as the US.
Huh, interesting. I guess I had it wrong.
