Here’s the rub about the offensive play calling.
Yes, 21 passes at or near the line of scrimmage is incredibly frustrating and boring. But, fans are choosing to ignore the 5-10 plays where Fields looked downfield and either nothing was there or someone was open, but he didn’t throw (I don’t know which from the TV copy).
There were plenty of plays that just didn’t go anywhere. I would assume those were intended to be down field throws and it didn’t happen for whatever reason.
Would you rather have screen passes for 2-5 yards, or several 3 and outs?
Everyone wants to blame Getsy, and maybe he deserves it, I don’t know. But not enough people consider that maybe Getsy has his hands tied and these are the only plays he can call that have a decent chance to gain positive yards.
I wonder where some of the other routes are at. I didn't get to see a lot of the game because I was at work but, every time I was able to tune in; it was either a screen or 4 verts. Where are the slants or crossers?
