Oh, he's genuinely a right wing bigot that hates Jews and Muslims. He lies to create a narrative to get his audience on board with his politics and to scare them into giving him money.
I would say that he is still self aware about it, he knows what he is, he knows the game. His whole schtick relies on his persona though and marinating that requires him to be self aware.
