My understanding is that the Hitachi magic wand was actually designed to be a neck and back massager, and sold moderately well for that purpose for a few years before exploding in popularity as the vibrator it's mostly known as today.

It's true, Hitachi will not distribute to any store if it sells Adult products.

That's actually not true at all, the magic wand is widely available in adult toy shops both physically and online. The US distributor, Vibratex is really picky though.
