This may seem totally random, but I'm having a hard time deciding so I thought why not turn to reddit and ask?
Here's the deal - As I got into college i decided to get a laptop, at the time I wasn't using apple products at all, so I got an asus vivobook that had tons of memory (512 gb to be precise), cheap but that would allow me to play LOL and "lighter stuff" (I have a Gaming PC that I built it in 2019/2020 so I wont use it for "heavy lifting" per say) . Then, i finally saved up for an Iphone, and i loved it. Switch my old phone for an apple watch and some airpods and my brother gave me he's old Ipad air, so all of a sudden I'm in. I'm inside the apple ecosystem, but I never thought of switching laptops ... Mine's totally fine, before college I didnt felt the need for one, now as I'm almost over, I realised i dont actually game on it and probably would feel happier with a Macbook (looking for a reforbished macbook pro 2018 with a touchbar, 256gb, I7) but for some reason I'm still on the fence. Is it worth it? Will it pay off? Is the hype real? Can I play casually? Will i miss the ports? Has anyone gone through something similar? Any hints, tips? Am I just being materialistic?
I own an iPhone, Apple, watch, AirPods, iPad, and Apple TV. I even use Apple Music instead of Spotify. The only thing I don’t own is a MacBook and I don’t want one. I work in IT and so many of my clients fall into the trap of getting a MacBook because they look pretty. The problem is, most of these casual users are pretty computer illiterate to begin with and have trouble performing basic tasks or installing software and keeping their shit up to date and doing maintenance.
On top of that I feel like Mac OS degrades rapidly over time and slows down significantly. The OS hogs so much memory with their system files too.
Point being, you can be up to your neck into the Apple ecosystem like me, but you will never need a MacBook unless you want to use it for a very specific reason. Sure people will say “oh just install boot camp and you can run windows”. Why not just get a PC? Even if you run bootcamp you can still come across issues when the drivers won’t cooperate with games and software.
So unless you really really want to commit yourself to Apple ecosystem and you are good with tech I would recommend to stick with PC.
