Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Oil and gas are “not the problem” for the climate, but the carbon emissions arising from them are, the UK’s net zero minister has told MPs.

In words that suggested the UK could place yet more emphasis on technologies to capture and store carbon, Graham Stuart said fossil fuel production was not driving climate change, but demand for fossil fuels was.

Oil and gas aren't harmful, just the things people do with them. There's no problem with increased oil and gas production, just with how people use them. It's not our problem if people choose to burn what we sell them for energy.

Guns don't kill people, it's what people do with them.

What is the large-scale carbon capture technology they're counting on? As far as I know, it doesn't exist. They're just using words to dupe the ignorant while they continue to profit from oil and gas.

The Conservatives have nothing to offer and are the party of destructive greed and selfishness. They depend for votes on duping the most ignorant members of society. It's no wonder they have decided to emulate the US Republican Party with their disingenuous nonsense.

Oil and gas doesn't kill people, climate change kills people! Only a good guy with oil and gas can stop a bad guy with oil and gas!
