Much more prone to damage though.
Part of the reason a maquette is preferred is that from high heels to the pointy corners on plastic art portfolios, sharp objects can’t get adequate purchase through the pile to do damage; it’s rare for maquette to be cut through use.
Comparatively, even very heavy duty vinyl will be prone to damage, especially in an upholstery situation. The tensions applied across the fabric, coupled with the thousands of arses a week on it (plus their shopping, suitcases, etc), will see this degrade much quicker.
