What scenario are they worried about?
If it goes bad and Israel gets crushed they want to say they offered all the help they could or if it goes bad and Israel fills gas chambers with Palestinian children they want to say they asked Israel to show some restraint?
I think they realize that Israel is going to actually do the final solution and they don't want to have to pull back support. Slow Holocaust = Good, Fast Holocaust = Bad
Maybe they're worried about the scenario where they lose and people are held accountable
They want to have a post-lanyard career as a grifter in non-profits/book deals/public speaking. If they can point to that they were trying to 'change things from the inside' they can absolve themselves from guilt when it comes up.
