So I’ve always used cases but this time around it feels so nice in the hand, the volume and action buttons feel so stiff with the apple cases so I bought AppleCare and took the case off.

Does anyone have any suggestions for reducing cosmetic damage?

I might want to resell down the line so that’s my only concern as AppleCare doesn’t cover it.

So, you're a klutz who is prone to dropping your phone, and might want to sell your device later on, and still you're asking to go caseless? A case isn't just to protect against drops, but it's also helpful for grip as well. If you care at all about your device and actually plan on selling it, just use a case. If you didn't plan on selling it eventually, I don't see the problem but if that's your goal then your best interest is a case. Even if it's just a thin one.
