Sports journalists, the lowest of the low in journalism...

Do people actually give a shit about it? It's just a circlejerk amongst a few.

That said, it'll be kinda dumb this year if Messi didn't get it, won the World Cup and transformed an entire league basically. Don't know if Erling Robo can ever achieve that in his career.
