Good morning, I'm writing to you about this ECG I took this morning. Consider that I have been training for about 6 years, I do blood tests every 6 months before donating it and in March 2023 I had a visit to the cardiologist because I suffer from high blood pressure. (the visit did not reveal anything abnormal). Today as soon as I finished running I decided to do this ECG I was completely sweaty. Do you think this is normal?

Hi, this is Dr. Rodriguez from Empirical Health!

While the ECG function on the Apple Watch is FDA cleared and can be very useful for certain cases, there are many context clues that are necessary to really appreciate what it means for each individual. It is also important to know that an ECG is NOT by any means a complete evaluation of your health or even your heart health.

Generally, an elevated heart rate >100 beats per minute can be caused by many different things - illness, exercise, anxiety, etc. If your elevated heart rate is correlated with symptoms, it is important to talk to a doctor about what you are experiencing so they can help you address the underlying issue.
