The task of this newest Project 23040G reconnaissance hydrographic mine-anti-mine ship “Vladimir Kozitsky” is to search for sea mines at the bottom. Apparently, he found what he was looking for.

According to witnesses, the ship suddenly exploded in the outer roadstead of Sevastopol Bay, where before that it had been slowly “cutting circles” for the last few days. Smoke was reported coming from the engine room.

A tugboat was brought up to the “smoking” ship and pulled towards Streletskaya Bay.

*Project 23040G boats with a total displacement of 192.7 tons reach 33 m in length and 6.8 m in width. The average draft is 1.6 m. The vessels are equipped with two 248 kW diesel engines, allowing them to reach speeds of up to 13 knots.

Presumably, this is the dull explosion with vibration that residents of the center of Sevastopol, the North Side and the Streletskaya Bay area felt yesterday.
