Oliver Tambo, born on this day in 1917, was a South African anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1967 to 1991.

In 1943, Tambo, along with Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, founded the ANC Youth League, with Tambo becoming its first National Secretary and a member of the National Executive in 1948. The Youth League proposed a change in the tactics of the anti-apartheid movement, advocating boycotts, civil disobedience, strikes, and non-collaboration.

In 1960, Tambo fled South Africa due to political persecution, living in exile in north London for thirty years. From London, he supported and helped organize the ANC in the fight against apartheid from a distance. On December 13th, 1990, Tambo returned to South Africa and was elected National Chairperson of the ANC.

Woke up at around 1 am, tried to fall back asleep but ended up waking up a second time at around 3 am. agony-wholesome

I can not remember a night in the recent past where I didn't wake up at least once in the middle of the night, I wish I could just sleep a full 8 hours straight but I never can.

Drinking alcohol can do that. When your liver runs out of alcohol to process it starts doing its normal job processing waste but has too little water because it used it processing the alcohol, so your blood pressure and pulse rise and you wake up.

Word. Gotta remember to hydrate. Drinking a quart or two of water mixed with gatoraid at a 4:1 ratio before you go to bed will do you a lot of good come morning. Eating a banana isn't a bad idea, either. Potassium and more sugars and electrolites, but easy on most people's stomachs.

Agree with hydrating but two quarts of water before bed and I'm getting up every hour to piss lol. Hydration is an all day effort! Alternate drinks and water!

Yeah, that's almost definitely the reason. I should be drinking more water.

I do too, but only because I sleep super-early.
