Marxist analysis of modes of production: people who lack fresh water/medicine are afraid of spreading germs, people who won't get killed by a virus are happy to swap biological fluids
except these cultural norms almost always predate both germ theory and modern sanitary technologies. an anthropologist would point out that there is no reason kissing should be considered a natural gesture.
I thought it wasto ensure exchange of one particular virus that was fatal to fetuses if the mother contracted it during pregnancy but harmless if she contracted it before.
