Maybe because their children and grandchildren are the ones that are going to get the shortest end of the stick? The richest countries are much better equipped to deal with climate change than the global south. Some northern countries might even benefit from the direct impact of climate change according to some predictions (the indirect impact might kill us all though). At the rate this is going the rest of the world is not going to be raising cattle in 50 years, but rather fighting for fresh water sources mad max style.
