Even back then we can see the mental distancing of Judaism and Islam when they should be in solidarity with one another. This line just rubs me in the wrong way that I can't describe fully.

Ben Gurion was militantly secular. I think in this case he’s saying “God” in the sense of what the theologian Paul Tillich called “ultimate purpose.”
