Speaking as a musician - Tool is awesome artistically, the music is great, but for me personally the air of pretentiousness really turns me off. I make music to have fun and for my audience to have fun, and it's hard to do that if you're constantly wafting your own farts. There are plenty of "best in the world" musicians out there who are aware that they are unbelievably skilled and put on an incredible show, but still manage not to take themselves so seriously.
