In terms of 90s pop culture environmentalism FF7 easily takes the cake since much of the early game revolves around blowing up pipelines as part of a militant organization that never even gets the both sides treatment (IIRC)

If FF7 was made today in the West Tifa would become the new progressive girlboss of Shinra in the end

I regret to inform you that "Captain Planet decides to do direct action" was an episode of Rick and Morty, and it decided that eco-terrorism was evil.

the real criticism of eco-terrorism is not that it's "evil" but that it's unfocused adventurism that doesn't get at the root cause of the problem.

But yeah I know what episode you're talking about. Bourgeois ideology all the way down. They had to show Planetina killing both coal miners and CEOs to tell the audience that "environmentalists place equal blame on workers and owners!"
