How weird, you‘d think once you march on the capital you either follow through or you‘re done, he truly trusts Putin not to get rid of him now?

Too early to tell. Let’s face it. He wouldn’t have had any chance of taking Moscow without mass defections in the Russian military. It would have been suicide.

Sounds like the Belarus president brokered some kind of deal, but I don’t fancy the Wagner leader’s chances of survival medium term.
