You might need to check your news sources if you're linking regulation to authoritirian... I'm not aware of a single advanced economy that doesn't regulate their industries.
Perhaps you didn't notice that I said it's one of those laws that you expect to see in counties run by authoritarian regimes like Russia, Iran, or China. This can easily lead to freedom of speech violations and censorships. It is dangerous and governments must not get a free pass to put such rules in place.
Say "I've swallowed American right wing media without thought" without using those words.
Also say "I've never lived in an authoritarian nation before" without using those words.
