I buy 1 LEGO kit a year, i try to document building it, I build it slowly over months, then I house it in acrylic and light it, and start to look for my next kit. I don't buy smaller kits. I don't like paying premium for molded blocks or 1x1 decoration pieces, but I also don't like a build that only takes an hour, or multiple trips to the LEGO store per year, or having lots of empty LEGO boxes. And I feel a lot more love goes into the big kits, you get things like designer notes in the instructions.
