Nobody understands this guy's movies and ends up glorifying the reactionary characters as peak manhood lol
It's not a Scorsese film, but never look at the comments on a video of the American History X curb stomp scene. Worst mistake of my life.
I knew a lot of people that missed the point of that movie. Like, the guy destroyed his life because of a devotion to fascism that never loved him back. I remember thinking "did we even watch the same movie?"
Same thing for Fight Club. Its based on a book written by a gay man about toxic masculinity but dudes watch it like its aspirational
I've always got to be careful when I point out that fight club was one of the most influential movies of my teenage years.
I didn't miss the whole point, ok???
The guy who introduced me to Fight Club was one of those "Tyler Durden is right about everything" types. Colored my view of the movie for years.
I know way too many people that did exactly that. I am biologically related to many of them.
