Unsurprisingly for the spawning pit of car dependant suburbia, not that good. Nassau and suffolk do have buses but they don't have the best of coverage or reliability.

I did some searching online, and it looks like Long Island as a whole has a very similar population to Sweden on an island a fraction of Sweden's size.
