Haskell isn't really that hard to learn. It's just changing the paradigm, that takes a mind shift for the first two weeks, maybe a month.
I don't play games that much to make such comparisons, though.
A monad is a monoid in the category of endofunctors
a little category theory never hurt anyone :)
