Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

This meme even looks like a Pole lmao

edit: I have been informed he actually looks like a normal Polish guy

[–] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 20 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Polack

This is a slur, isn't it?

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

im quite certain it's a famous splatter painter actually theory-gary

[–] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (4 children)

an old timey 1800s one for a group that's considered white now. It's a slur in the way guido, wop or dago are. This house was built on ironic racism against Irish, Italians and Poles!

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I think it's worth being careful with this. Anti Polish racism is alive and well here in the UK.

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, in America it's more of a joke. But learning more about Britain as I grew up, it's crazy how the Polish hate is still just as strong as it was when my grandma lived there.

[–] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I'll admit this was an Americanism of mine and I acted like a burger here. In America, poles are not really discriminated against and are basically Irish-American Whites indistinguishable from other whites beyond incomprehensible surname spelling. I hadn't considered that it was much worse in Europe

[–] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

I did the same thing. bawllin-sad

[–] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

True. Maybe I'll avoid in the future. Everyone reading know I'm using it lovingly for Poland actually being based for once

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Here in the UK we got a considerable amount of migrants from Poland, and the amount of racism against them was incredibly high. I never met a bad Polish migrant too, they are all lovely.

I never met a bad Polish migrant too

I've known a couple that were completely insufferable but that was just their personality not a consequence of being Polish. Also they shouldn't be expected to be perfect people they're just people same as you and me.

Yes, please use the Hexbear approved "cracker" next time

[–] oregoncom@hexbear.net 20 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

A slur's a slur. I've definitely seen Polish people get discriminated before. The article's literally about a living Nazi who was ethnically cleansing them. "Ironic" Racism is some far right BS. I'm not white btw. White people "ironically" being racist towards eachother is the cringiest shit to witness.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

White people "ironically" being racist towards eachother is the cringiest shit to witness.

Same deal with that South Park brained shit where "ironic" bigotry toward red haired people became a thing. Again.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago

This ain't it chief anti-Polish racism is alive and well. Much like anti-Irish racism I was talking to a Scot recently who suggested to me that we put them in concentration camps

[–] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

ironic racism

Is just good old fashioned racism I think. I'm glad you didn't mean it as a slur, but I've certainly never heard anyone use that word positively. Usually as a joke about how stupid people from Poland are. I knew it meant an impossibly stupid person before I knew even what Poland was.

[–] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Alright I'll do 30 lashes and never again drop the p-slur

[–] UnicodeHamSic@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Not in America. Apparently it is in other places.

[–] footfaults@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's definitely a slur in America. I have family who used it on purpose

[–] UnicodeHamSic@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Oh damn, I am just wrong then. I just live a region where we don't use it like that so I never had an occasion to learn

While you are factually correct you have the misfortune of living in a world where people are unaware of that.

[–] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Probably, but I'll allow it if you're making fun of my dad.
