The entire energy industry is like this though. All over the western world too.

The fossil fuel energy industry subsidies according to IMF and has surpassed $7 trillion just in the US. Talk about propping up the industy.

In 2021, NYT reported on a study saying that subsidies were at $5.9 trillion

Yeah, lots of crony capitalism and corruption out there. And nobody in any party is actually going to do anything about it.
