I didn't even know that 80 was the level cap now
Level cap didn't change.
It's been 10 years
... since I heard this song!
Yup, instead of increasing the level cap, there is now a mastery system. Your xp combines with "mastery points" to unlock new abilities like gliding, mushroom jumping, or mount abilities. There's no more stat increase, no better armor or weapons after 80. Progression is horizontal instead of vertical. Your character doesn't get better, you get new ways to play.
