Honestly I'm kinda flabbergasted, is Policy 713 of all things going to be the downfall of Blaine Higgs?
Don't get me wrong, I'm appalled at what our government has been doing the past few weeks, but I didn't think LGBTQ+ rights would be the thing to make people stand up to him. I didn't think queerphobia was that unpopular in NB, to be frank. I assume the accumulation of Higgs' power-tripping maybe just finally reached its tipping point within the Conservative Party, but it's still reassuring to see that even among the right-wing this bullshit is unpopular.
I'm surprised, but not that surprised. Richard Hatfield was gay and he became premier in 1970! The "Progressive" in PC hasn't always been lip service.
I was today years old when I learned that Hatfield was gay. A gay francophile leader seems so far removed from the current reality of the party.
At least one other high-profile PC of the time is gay too, but I don't know to what extent he's publicly out so I won't name him. He isn't too pleased about the current situation.
