In regards to yandere, it seems it is an well established term that already did gather clout in research decades ago: https://www.academia.edu/25954969/Yangire_Yandere_a_tour_of_the_poisonous_girls_in_Japanese_animation_and_beyond

Yandere Simulator simulator is mentioned in that article shortly.

I am pondering both the material, social and psychological reasons why it is a popular thing.
