Yeah, this is exactly the kind of complex interaction with geo-engineering efforts that make them a very risky proposal. It might be still worth looking into ocean iron fertilisation at very specific locations (maybe to boost krill production in colder oceans?), but sadly that will also limit its impact a lot.
