MODERATORS

Leonard Peltier, born on this day in 1944, is an indigenous rights activist of Lakota descent who has been imprisoned by the U.S. since 1977, convicted of first-degree murder following the killing of two FBI agents.

After being extradited from Canada through a false witness statement, Peltier was convicted in a controversial 1977 trial and sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment for the murder of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents in a shooting on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

As detailed by "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse", Peltier's trials and conviction are considered highly controversial, and groups such as Amnesty International have raised concerns about their fairness.

On January 18th, 2017, the Office of the Pardon Attorney announced that President Barack Obama had denied Peltier's application for clemency.

"You must understand...I am ordinary. Painfully ordinary. This isn't modesty. This is fact. Maybe you're ordinary, too. If so, I honor your ordinariness, your humanness, your spirituality. I hope you will honor mine. That ordinariness is our bond, you and I. We are ordinary. We are human. The Creator made us this way. Imperfect. Inadequate. Ordinary."

Accidentally posted my rant in the wrong mega

Fucking fantastic, yet another private "festival" has fenced off the public park near me, blocking access for 2 full months. And of course it's never the public parks in richer areas that get taken over by this bullshit! These bastards enclose a supposedly public area and charge $30 a head to wander around a public fucking park looking at plastic pumpkins while listening to a mix of generic spooky music and Disney soundtracks. Not to mention they leave their garbage all over the place and tear up everything driving around in giant pickups. Yesterday I accidentally wandered into their cordon because they hadn't finished fencing it and I had a couple dipshits escort me out by driving behind me to make sure I didn't look at their shitty fake jack o' lanterns.

Apologies for the rant but it pisses me the fuck off

It's not even the only time of year they do this shit either, chances are they'll fence it off for the month of December for a similarly stupid winter "festival" that also leaves tons of trash to be uncovered by the melting snow. It wouldn't even be so bad if they rotated it around to other parks, but it's literally always this specific park in a poorer/less well off area of the city.

Suburbanites will flock to it though, clogging the area with SUVs and jacked up trucks because their soulless sterile suburban wastelands lack any sort of community or organic celebrations, so they feel obligated to pay $120 for a family of 4 to look at the shittiest, hollowest, most cynical take on a Halloween/fall festival for 30 minutes before they get bored and fuck off back to their cookie cutter suburb.
