Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

I'm not advocating church mission trip in any way, almost all of them are bullshit vacations for religious folks to feel good about themselves for 'helping' poor people for a week and then shipping off. Yet I'm reminded of when I was a kid and the church I grew up in did one to rural Kentucky and my brothers friends were all going so he and my dad went. My dad, who worked a tough job as a lineman and often was sent out to disasters like hurricanes to rebuild the infrastructure most notably Hurrican Andrew, told me when they got back that it was like a third world country. This was in the early 00s
