Yeah, that game was ROUGH, but Jaden Rashada fiasco notwithstanding, recruiting has turned around. There is still a desperate need for cohesion and discipline to make this year's squad look like it can lead into better ones in '24 and '25, but as long as the trend lines over the course of the season look okay, then it's not panic time.

Mullen was always a fish out of water on the recruiting trail, so once he was over it and then didn't land an NFL coordinator job, he just... stopped. Then there were the assistants. Now lots of coaches, who understand at some level that everybody in FBS is pretty talented and dedicated, struggle with this, but he was definitely at that point where comfort level with his assistants was more important to him than the potential improvements from firing his buddies. He pretty much had to go, despite still being a very sharp Xs&Os coach.
