I was just paying rent and was thinking 'wtf why isnt private the default setting, why do my finances need to be social-media-itized?'

I'm pretty sure it's because Venmo wants to encourage people to show off their spending

If you bought/did something cool, you can pay for it with Venmo and super casually show it off by describing what you bought in the message
