Maybe I'm too dumb for kbin - Why are there so many different types of post/microblog? How does federation work? If someone follows a magazine on another instance do they see all of the posts and micr (fedia.io)

Ok, so I downloaded Toot, thinking it would help me find magazines to subscribe to. The very first thing it needs is the Instance's domain. That would be fedia.io, correct? Because it doesn't recognize that name.

I'm sure I'm doing it wrong, but I need a pointer here.

I think Toot is only for Mastodon? There isn't an app for Kbin yet.
