Polytheism is simply the worship of or belief in more than one god. I would not characterize "celebrity worship" (a rhetorical phrase), as literal polytheism, because nobody actually believes American celebrities are Gods in the literal sense of the word.

The majority of Americans identify as Christian which is, last time I checked, a decidedly monotheistic faith.
