TL;DR the bike frame features a curved metal pipe with triangular cross-section that houses the battery and connects the rear wheel to the steering column. This is very heavy and relatively sharp so it will act as a fulcrum to apply leveraged sideways force on the rider's leg as the bike tips over. In the incident explored, the brakes failed and he was forced to swerve to avoid a pedestrian and fell in the process. An orthopaedic surgeon comments on the increase in severe Lime-related injuries, which can be life-changing or deadly, and that he sometimes had a hard time believing the vehicle involved was not a motorcycle.
The thing is that it's not just Lime who does this. Makes me wonder if there are other eBikes with a heavy unistrut style bikes which are doing this?
They are also heavy as fuck. They are quoted at 35kg. Parts of your body weight will also crash on your leg and if you have something in the basket, that's extra weight.
