Great British Bake-Off gave me unrealistic expectations for British food. Recently I went to a British branded restaurant near me, and ordered a decent shepard’s pie and the world’s worst apple pie.
It was a sphere of what seemed to be Wonder Bread smothered in totally flavorless custard, filled with soggy apple slices containing no flavor that were extraordinarily grainy. No sweetness or saltiness or tart apple flavor or even texture other than the graininess. One of the saddest things I’ve ever eaten.
I don’t think it was a good representation of British food because I’ve been to London before and done the rounds, but it fit the memes perfectly.
Just like McDonalds is the best and only representation of American cuisine?
Cool story bro
