Chief justices have absolute discretion to assign and re-assign cases to particular benches, without giving reasons.

Pliable chief justices won't let anything get in the way of their post-retirement benefits and will happily sacrifice justice, democracy, Constituton at the altar of aapada-mein-avsar.
