I'd love to play it, but everytime I try it felt too clunky for me :( did watch a lot of lore videos, though xD

I highly recommend giving it another shot, the opening is a bit slow and there is a lllloooooottttt of mindless running through the desert but there are fun things peppered everywhere. Never follow the main road, if you see something in the distance go there, search for the sunset sasparilla star bottle caps, DO NOT ENTER THE QUARRY UNTIL YOU ARE AT LEAST LEVEL 10!!!!

To me, that's not even really the issue, hell I enjoyed Death Stranding. But more the combat feeling very clunky. The first Fallout I ever played was 4, so that might've tainted how I expect it to feel.

Oh and the lack of auto-saving, I am horrible at saving periodically and tend to forget it xD

I'll probably try again now that I have more patience, though I am currently on an Old Republic binge x.x

Yea that may contribute, I started with 3 so I never noticed a difference between 3, NV, and 4. Do you play on PC? If you do, I bet there's an auto save mod. I use Nexus mods Vortex mod loader. I'm currently addicted to Starfield so I know how hard it is to jump out of the current binge. Have fun regardless, that's the important part!

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, I play on PC. I also already tried modding NV. Though I barely got it to work. Nexus works fine, for a lot of games, but with the Bethesda games I always struggle to get it running. I tried modding fallout 4 and skyrim and there always seemed to be something going awry.

Maybe I am just too used to modding like Minecraft or the Steam Workshop…

Yea I'm not great at it, that's why I use vortex. It tells me if I'm missing mods or if mods clash. Bethesda is definitely a buggy company in general. Really wish they weren't

You almost need mods to have a good time, as the game can get quite unstable without them. Plus, you can get features like sprinting, auto-saving, and fluid animations back. The crafting, ammo types, and gun mods in the base game can also scratch the Fallout 4 crafting itch quite nicely. Viva New Vegas is a fairly stable and useful modding guide that I would recommend.

All that said, there are certain things you'll never be able to fix and the game will always be a bit jank. You also have limited perks, limited ability to respect your build, and the game can be made much harder if you make mistakes. It isn't a plug and play game, which is part of the appeal for trans people who are often autistic and nerdy.

I ought to like it then, haha. Though I seems to be more the Glorified Excel Spreadsheet type, aka Paradox Games.

To be fair, I might also just not vibe with the style of the Bethesda franchises. Neither ESO nor Fallout have games I actually finished. The only games associated with Bethesda I actually finished are the Arkane games Dishonored and Deathloop.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, even though New Vegas actually delivers on the RPG mechanics better than regular Bethesda games, the gameplay is still based on the Bethesda open world format. It's probably the best version of it, but if it isn't for you there's isn't much to be done.

Also, if you like games like to BioShock, Arkane's Prey is one of my favorites from the last 10 years.

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Ooh, I looove Prey. I never finished it, though. Somehow I always start a playthrough, play for a week or two straight and then forget about it :(

It's not an issue unique to it, though. I think it's just one of the games that I get lonely in and then stop playing for a while x.x

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I get that. It can drag a bit towards the later half when you're mostly backtracking through levels you've long since explored. That's why I came up with creative solutions to that slump like finding every corpse or unlocking every neuromod through recycling and necromancy. Not only are there multiple ways to solve most problems, there are multiple ways to create your own fun.

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, Immersive sims can be quite cool. Though that might also be part of why I struggle with these games. I am very bad at making my own fun, I prefer having goals to work towards. Otherwise I become quite aimless x.x

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 56 minutes ago (1 children)

Making your own fun is all about having goals! The only difference is that you set the goals themselves and there is no external penalty for not meeting them. Like, trying to play a game without the best weapons, or trying to come up with some checklist of tasks to accomplish. Even doing the steam achievements for Prey was quite rewarding, especially the "no needles" one.

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 2 points 53 minutes ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. I am just bad at making my own goals. Or keeping up with them xD a big reason why I don't play Vanilla Minecraft alone anymore. Though true, achievement hunting is nice, i did a few 100% games already. Some I want to be 100% but are really annoying on the last few achievements (shadow of mordor, I loath the last two challenges)

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 minutes ago

The annoying part for Prey is I only need a single achievement from the base game, but cannot 100% it until I get the DLC. I've heard good things about the DLC, but tragically I'm an absolute cheapscape
