It’s extremely important to remember and talk widely about the republican capture of US media - this is exactly the point

They scream and scream for weeks about nothing, then bury the real news. It could be the path to fixing america

We need pirate radio

We need pirate radio

You don’t even need to be licensed for Citizen’s Band. Get started today!

Eh, what? In the old days, the means of mass communication were limited or expensive, so sure stuff like pirate radio made sense.

But nowadays, anybody can start an Internet radio station for very little money. Or a YouTube channel or whatever. The problem is people not listening, not that they are prohibited or prevented from listening to you.

That means nothing when the search engines and algorithms don't let them show up.

Well, yes. But how would a pirate radio be any better?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago

No idea, but the youtube and internet radio aren't solutions either.

We need pirate radio

This is how we got in this mess to begin with. Talk radio, then podcasts.

Well I guess at least some pirate radio would be saying "Did you know it's illegal to say that we should kill the president"

Can't be worse than every station being owned by Sinclair and ClearChannel anyway

Republicans are how we got in this mess. We need to leverage similar channels if they’ve proven to be effective

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It's ultimately a both sides issue. The Republicans did this shit and the Democrats did fuck all to stop it.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not saying both sides are the same at all. I'm saying that both sides share blame for the current situation for different reasons.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world -4 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

How embarrassing for you to say

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 8 hours ago

I'm not embarrassed by being correct.

The Democrats had a chance to lock Trump up and they sat on their hands for 4 years. The Democrats had a chance to block the horrendous spending bill, but they caved. The Democrats had the chance to stack the supreme court and they didn't.

It's no different than saying protest non-voters share the blame for Trump being elected.

How's it embarrassing if they're right?

Besides witty comebacks, do you have any arguments that can demonstrate your point?
