RULES

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
  4. Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world
  5. Keep it clean and SFW
  6. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc.

@casualconversation this is regarding using WhatsApp wisely. It doesn't matter whether you're for WhatsApp or against. But as a user myself, l need to know how to prevent whatsapp messages from eating up a significant amount of storage space in my limited phone memory.

Any insightful suggestion please ??πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Indeed, there is an option in the settings that will not download any media unless you authorize it. It also creates its own media gallery, which you can periodically delete photos from. In this regard it's not much different from other messaging apps, but yeah absolutely tick that permission off. If you use it for work in group chats you are probably getting flooded with work related photos that aren't even addressed to you, as it happened to me.

Another one you may find useful is removing the automatic backups to cloud. They pretty much brick your phone at 2am or whenever the hell it chooses to do it.
