I once smacked my funny bone on a piece of lumber and lost all feeling and control of my right hand for a good 10 minutes or so and was freaking out that I lost the use of my dominant hand until it started having feeling again and I could move my fingers.

I did something similar on a fire door in college (i was behind it when someone kicked it open). There's a bigass nerve cluster there. Lost the use of the arm for a week.

Yeah. That nerve cluster also where signsls to your pinky and ring finger go. If you mess it up bad enough, you can lose the use of 2/5ths of your hand. The carpal tunnel houses another cluster of nerves that if damaged can fuck up the other 3/5ths. If you skate or regularly do shit where you could fall, always wear knee, elbow and wrist protection along with your helmet. And probably more relevant to Lemmy: proper posture when typing and using the mouse; don't rest your wrists while not at rest, sit up straight, etc. Damage to any of those areas is bad news.
