https://fedidb.com/ say ca. 1 million active user. https://the-federation.info/ say ca. 2 million monthly active user.
https://market.us/statistics/social-media/twitter say ca. 611 million monthly active user, let round to 600 million.
https://statcounter.com/ say linux usage ca. 4%. Let assume not all of linux interest or linux community found and say 5%.
I think before musk twitter probably relatively good distribution of user across all group of internet user, so assume twitter was representative user distribution that for statcounter data.
Linux user on twitter without musk would then around 600 * 0.05 = 30 million. With musk let say 70% leave (probably much lower). Still 30 * 0.3 = 9 million. Let say all of twitter now 70% bot. Still 9 * 0.3 = 2.7 million.
Twitter fucking huge. Even just linux twitter probably larger than fediverse. And fediverse not all linux user. And not all reachable on same platform, for example lemmy cannot follow mastodon user. And even if 80% leave and 80% bot would have 600 * 0.05 * 0.2 * 0.2 = 1.2 million. You think fediverse is over 60% linux?
So yes even with horrible damage to linux user count twitter probably more linux user than on entire fediverse.
