Why is it that when it comes to bathrooms and sports, transphobes seem to think that transgender women are indistinguishable from cisgender men, they think a transgender woman is just a man claiming to be a woman while physically male, completely ignoring transgender women who have physically changed through hormones and/or surgery, making the situation very much not black and white, they see no nuance whatsoever, they believe transgender women are physically indistinguishable from men

And yet simultaneously, they're afraid that children are forcibly having their bodies irreversibly changed

Of course it does not make sense. It does not have to. It is a diversion. Basically, attacking trans persons is the new anti-abortion campaign. The latter's extreme results have pissed off even "conservative" voters when it directly affected them, as well. So now they picked a new target to attack that is only a minimal percentage of the entire population and only minimal support from the population at large. It is not even about trans people, it is about riling up people about some made up bullshit (like trans people eating children or whatever) so people do not start thinking about how the super rich make them super poor. It is all diversion from the class struggle. Keep them fighting some imagined enemy so they do not start building guillotines and chopping off the heads of billionairs. That is all there is to it, really.
