This is potentially dangerous. Maple syrup gets used a sugar replacement in a lot of things for a reason.

What reason? Other than that it tastes good, I mean. Maple syrup is mostly sugar.

It doesn't cause the blood sugar to spike the same way as sugar does if I understand it correctly. Sugars and carbs come in different forms that get processed differently by the body. I'm no foodologist by any means though so I could be completely misunderstanding.
