https://immich.app/

Immich is a self-hosted photo and video management system. It's heavily inspired by Google Photos.

Yes, I know that. I just don't understand the purpose of this single word comment in a post about ux enhancements in Google photos.

They were name-dropping a competitor to Google photos, implying the competitor is the solution to the issue/enshittification presented in the article (although I don't know if anyone who doesn't already know about it will recognise the name).

The last sentence is kinda core to why parent poster's comment isn't really helpful.

But here we are talking about it, so more evidence that engagement hacking works, I guess?

I would recommend but I'm having issues syncing to my server so Idk what the fucks hapoenning

What's going on exactly? Just some simple troubleshooting: Is the server up to date; Is the app and the server version the same; Are there any logs in Immich server or in the app (Account icon > logs) that point to an easy error?

If not I'd maybe open a discussion or issue on their github. I could tell you to join their discord. i could also tell you to scream into a box.

I updated server. Checked app was latest on fdroid. Immich server has some logs but haven't really looked into it too much. I can probably figure it out but I just don't have the time or effort to go debug it. I was just hoping it would fix itself or I might wipe the entire thing and start again.

So it looks like currently the F-Droid release is on version 2.5.6 (Compiled Feb 11th), while the latest Android app release is v2.6.3.

Unfortunately, Immich does not currently look to be using Reproducable Builds on F-Droid, so what that means for you is you either have to wait for F-Droid to build the current app release without updating your server, or uninstall the F-Droid build and use an app like Obtainium to use the latest Immich GitHub builds.

I personally keep my Immich server in sync with the F-Droid releases, as I prefer F-Droid to Obtainium. I understand wanting to use the latest releases as soon as possible though. Considering v2.5.6 was published to GitHub Feb 10th, and there have been 4 builds, with a minor version bump and 3 bug fix releases as recently as "last week" (GitHub Relative dates can btfo) Obtainium may be better suited to your needs if your needs are keeping up with the latest updates.

Ahh I'll try obtainium I already use it for PipePipe so hopefully that fixes it
